For those of you that are new to seo here are some basics.

The idea behind seo is to improve your website rankings within the search engines.

This can be done using a number of techniques, known collectively as search engine optimization (optimizing your website for search engines).

The first part of seo is choosing a domain name, and a web hosting company to host your domain. If your website is targeted primarily to the UK market for example, it is better to host your domain with a UK Web Hosting company. This strategy will help your website rank higher in Google UK, which is the prefered search engine for the UK market.

The next thing you need to consider is what to put on your web page. Content management is a big part of SEO. You need to make your content accessable by search engine spiders/bots and attractive to your website visitors. Its a fine balance between keeping the search engines and your site visitors happy. Your web page text needs to have a selection of the keywords you are targeting, but still be readable and natural to your site visitors. You also need to try to add as much unique well written content to your page as possible. This will give you a head start in the battle of the search engines.

The final part of the process involves Internet Marketing. This is by far the hardest part of seo. Internet Marketing is a contant process of marketing and telling people about your website. It involves writing unique and useful content on your pages that people will value and want to link to. It also involves writing articles, submitting your site to directories, social bookmarking websites, search engines etc.

Marketing your website is really the most important part of seo, and will be the difference between the success and failure of your website. A good internet marketing campaign will boost the popularity of your website significantly.
